Energy

KCB’s experience in the energy sector comes from decades of collaboration with oil and gas, and oil sands mining companies. We revolutionized the engineering of oil sands tailings storage facilities decades ago and we continue to innovate on each new project.

We deliver integrated geotechnical, water resources and environmental services for pipelines and other linear infrastructure, from permitting, environmental assessments, remediation design and full‑cycle reclamation, while prioritizing responsible stewardship of natural resources from exploration through to operation. A recognized market leader in cost‑effective support for oil sands developments, KCB brings extensive expertise in design, engineering, construction and project management, with specialized capabilities in tailings dam design, groundwater protection and electrical/mechanical design for pipelines and related facilities.

We also have a long history of supporting key clients in coal seam gas (CSG), where our services have included hydrogeological support, environmental impact assessment, permitting, hydrogeological and multiphase modelling, hydrogeochemistry, ongoing monitoring, and site characterisation.

We integrate social, environmental and regulatory requirements in our project design services for project development, operations and reclamation. We’re doing our part to improve the level of safety and sustainability in the energy sector by getting involved in industry associations, sponsoring university research and helping to develop international standards for tailings dams.
