Ryan Douglas, P.Eng., P.E.

Ryan began his engineering consulting career in South Africa 28 years ago and joined KCB in 2000. In 2013 he became a KCB Principal, and in 2018 he was appointed Vice President of the company’s Power and Transportation business unit. He also holds numerous executive positions within the company, including those governing subsidiaries, risk assessment, and international corporate compliance. His technical experience is worldwide and focused in civil, hydrotechnical, and geotechnical engineering and project management in hydroelectric and other heavy civil infrastructure projects. As president, Ryan will facilitate KCB’s growth as a company, as well as manage the day-to-day operations.

His experience spans Canada, the USA, South Africa, Southeast Asia, Papua New Guinea and Panama; and includes project and design management, contract and specification preparation, construction supervision, geotechnical site investigations and instrumentation, slope stability assessments, seismic studies, liquefaction assessments, dam safety reviews and public safety assessments.

Key Projects

Ryan’s key projects include design of the generating station and spillway for the Site C Clean Energy Project near Fort St. John, British Columbia, the John Hart Dam seismic upgrade project in Campbell River, British Columbia, the Snoqualmie Falls Redevelopment project in Washington state, and the Nam Theun 2 Hydroelectric project in Laos.

Education

Ryan has a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, and is a registered professional engineer in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Washington state. He is a member of the Tunnelling Association of Canada, the Canadian Dam Association, the Canadian Geotechnical Society and the International Society for Rock Mechanics.
