Jim Casey, P.Eng., P.E.

Jim started with KCB as a co-op student in 2007 while studying geological engineering. He returned post-graduation, and over the past 15 years has gained a wide range of experience in all aspects of mine waste management, from concept to closure. He has been involved in design of tailings storage facilities, site characterization programs, construction, surveillance and monitoring of operating tailings facilities, dam safety inspections and reviews, and risk assessments. Jim has worked on projects across the world, in North America, South America and Asia.
In 2022, Jim took on the role of Operations Manager for the Mining Environmental Group’s western North America offices in Vancouver, Nanaimo and Phoenix.

Key Projects

Jim’s key projects past and present include the Highland Valley Copper Mine in British Columbia, the Greens Creek Mine in Alaska, the Resolution Copper Project and BHP Legacy Assets projects in Arizona and the Oyu Tolgoi Mine Project in Mongolia.

Education

Jim has a B.A.Sc. in Geological Engineering from the University of British Columbia. He is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Colombia as well as a Registered Professional Engineer in Alaska, Arizona and New Mexico.

Fun Fact

Jim likes to play guitar, especially old-timey blues, folk and bluegrass. If you know who Doc Watson is, you’ve just made a new friend!
