KCB to undertake the detailed design and engineering certification for the Amrun Project Tailings Facility
June 22, 2016
KCB have been awarded the contract to undertake the detailed design and engineering certification for the Amrun Project Tailings Storage Facility (TSF). The Amrun Project is a bauxite project 100% owned by Rio Tinto and is located in far north Queensland, 40 km south of Weipa. The US $1.9 billion project will extend Rio Tinto's existing bauxitie mining activities and economic contributions to the region.
The TSF will initially have a capacity for 3 years (∼28 million tonnes) with ongoing raises planned to provide 25 years of tailings storage at the facility.
As one of the biggest mining projects in Australia currently moving towards construction, KCB are excited to have been appointed to the Amrun project and are looking forward to being involved in the long term development of the TSF. KCB have been involved in the ongoing construction of many TSF's around the world and we're looking forward to adding the Amrun project to that list.
