KCB to fund research with the Sustainable Minerals Institute

Len Murray, CEO and Chris Strachotta, Manager - Strategy and Growth for our Australasia Group met with representatives from the Sustainable Minerals Institute at The University of Queensland this week to finalize funding and collaboration for a research project to assess the characteristics of tailings as it ages. The Sustainable Minerals Institute is a world leading research institute dedicated to finding knowledge-based solutions to the sustainability challenges of the global minerals industry. KCB was among those to revolutionize modern tailings facility design fifty years ago, and our engineering approaches remain a hallmark of international practice. Research funding such as this supports our on-going commitment to drive innovation in this field. Having a better understanding of how the physical and chemical characteristics of tailings change over time helps to provide confidence in the development and implementation of a long-term management strategy of a tailings storage facility and a sustainable post-closure landform.
