KCB Partners with Several Universities to Fund Research and Innovation

May 11, 2018

KCB has committed to supporting the Geotechnical Engineering Centre (GEC) at the University of Queensland (UQ). We are keen to offer sponsorship to increase KCB’s collaboration with UQ in innovative research and development that adds value to and expands our business. The collaboration between UQ and KCB will be beneficial in strengthening and further developing geotechnical engineering research and teaching at UQ.

KCB is currently sponsoring research at UQ through the Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI) through to the end of 2018. When the SMI sponsorship ends, KCB will be sponsoring the GEC for 4 years from 2019 to 2022.

Other research projects that we are supporting starting this year include:

  • UK Space Agency/ HR Wallingford - Minimizing the risk of tailings dam failures through remote sensing data (in-kind commitment over 3 years)
  • University of Alberta - Implementation of New Monitoring Approaches for Geohazard-risk Management in Canada (in-kind and financial contributions over 4 years)
  • UBC Okanagan - Seismic rocking performance of bridge piers (financial contributions over 5 years)
  • UBC Vancouver - Compaction piling ground densification for liquefaction mitigation (in-kind and financial contributions over 4 years)
