June 30, 2010
The project team consisting of several consultant firms and government departments that worked on the Carseland-Bow River Main Canal and MacGregor Dam Rehabilitation Project in Southern Alberta have been awarded a 2010 Premier’s Award of Excellence for their work. The Klohn Crippen Berger team led by project manager Tom Murray in the Calgary office were the prime consultant for the portion of work involving rehabilitation of the McGregor Reservoir including two earthfill dams, outlet structure, auxiliary spillway, inlet spillways, canal structures and connecting canals. The Gold award is a huge achievement. Congratulations to everybody on the project team!
Originally constructed in 1909 and expanded and upgraded in 1950, the Carseland-Bow River Main Canal and McGregor Dam Rehabilitation Project was a significant and lengthy undertaking with immense expectations, given the critical importance of irrigation to southern Alberta’s economy.
The project began in early 2000 and was completed in summer 2009. This complex water-delivery and storage system comprises a 65 km main canal and a 40 km reservoir, providing irrigation to 236,850 acres of farmland and water for industry/recreation/wildlife and towns within the Bow River Irrigation District.
The Premier’s Award of Excellence advances best practices within government to continuously enhance programs and services to Albertans. Premier Ed Stelmach who will present the award at a ceremony in October commented ‘As Premier, I am proud to recognize the exemplary efforts of public servants who go ‘above and beyond’ expectations’.
