Klohn Crippen Berger Awarded CCE Award of Excellence for 2012

Klohn Crippen Berger received the CCE Award of Excellence in Natural Resources, Mining, Industry and Power for our work on the Greens Creek Mine in Alaska. The Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards ceremony, held every year in Ottawa, is organized jointly by ACEC and Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine and are considered the industry's highest honours. Green Creek Mine is located on northern Admiralty Island in Alaska. Admiralty Island is well known for having one of the largest populations of brown bears in the world and is a popular destination for tourists. Klohn Crippen Berger was retained to develop solutions to store de-watered tailings in an environmentally and regulatory sensitive site, and minimize acid rock drainage and visual impacts. "Klohn Crippen Berger is proud to accept the 2012 Canadian Consulting Engineering Award of Excellence for the Greens Creek Project," says Len Murray, P.Eng., Vice President of the Mining Environmental Group. "The Hecla Greens Creek Mining Company was the first mine in the world to adopt the filtered tailings disposal method and is the longest operating. KCB's involvement with this facility goes back to the early 1980s. Working with the HGCMC to develop innovative solutions for the recent Tailings Disposal Area Expansion not only advanced the project, but advanced the technology applied to tailings management for the benefit of the industry as a whole."
