Snoqualmie Falls Renovation Project Receives Top EIC Award
July 9, 2015
We are proud to receive the 2015 Grand Award for Excellence in Concrete Construction (EIC) for our work on the Snoqualmie Falls Renovation Project. The Grand Award winner is selected from the 25 projects competing in over 12 categories by the Washington Aggregates and Concrete Association’s panel of industry professionals. The project also won in its category in Public Works Renovations and Special Applications.
Puget Sound Energy (PSE) owns and operates the Snoqualmie Falls Hydroelectric Facility located near the tourist area of Snoqualmie Falls. The existing facilities consist of a diversion dam and two powerhouses (Plants 1 and 2) with a total installed capacity of 44.4 MW. Plant 1 is a five-unit powerhouse originally constructed in 1898 and was the first underground powerhouse in North America. Plant 2 is a two-unit surface powerhouse originally constructed in 1910 and redeveloped in 1956.
The Snoqualmie Falls Redevelopment Project involved a combination of upgrading and/or replacing existing generating equipment and structures, in accordance with PSE’s new FERC license.
Following a competitive process, Klohn Crippen Berger was retained by PSE to carry out the condition assessment, preliminary and detailed design, preparation of tender documents, and construction services and commissioning. Barnard Construction Company from Bozeman, MT was the General Contractor responsible for the construction of the redeveloped facilities.
We are proud to be part of the project team working to continue the legacy of this historic facility. You can find more information on the Snoqualmie Falls Hydroelectric Project on Puget Sound Energy’s website.
