Brian is a Senior Structural Engineer and Associate at Klohn Crippen Berger (KCB) with over 20 years of experience in structural engineering. His expertise spans hydroelectric facilities, dams, water conveyance systems, retaining structures, heavy industrial infrastructure, and bridges. Brian has played a pivotal role in condition assessments, structural evaluations, and seismic upgrades for critical infrastructure, leveraging advanced finite element modeling and dynamic analysis to tackle complex engineering challenges. His expertise extends across seismic evaluations, structural retrofits, and construction engineering, ensuring the long-term resilience and efficiency of hydroelectric and industrial facilities.

He leads KCB’s Hydro Structural Group, managing a team of 12 structural engineers and overseeing major projects across North America.

Brian has played a key role in several high-profile projects, including the seismic upgrades of the John Hart Concrete Main Dam, the Site C Powerhouse and Operations Building superstructure, and the redevelopment of the Snoqualmie Hydroelectric facilities. His work also includes dam safety reviews, bridge inspections, and structural assessments for Clients such as BC Hydro and Metro Vancouver.

Education

Brian holds a B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of British Columbia (2003). He is professionally registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, Alberta, Ontario, and Manitoba, as well as the State Boards of Washington, Alaska, and Oregon. Additionally, he is a Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia and registered with the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland.

Brian is an avid sports enthusiast, whether he’s hitting the ice for hockey, shooting hoops on the basketball court, or spending weekends on the golf course with his father. His passion for the game extends beyond personal play —he has been the driving force behind the KCB golf tournament, organizing the event for 19 consecutive years and bringing colleagues together for a great day on the course.
