Antamina Mine

Peru

Project Details

Antamina mine is one of the 10 largest mines in the world in production capacity. The Antamina property consists of numerous mining concessions covering an area of approximately 105,000 hectares and an area of approximately 15,716 hectares of surface rights. The mine is a large polymetallic (Zn, Cu, Mo mine operating in the Peruvian Andes, 270 km north of Lima. Located an average of 4,300m above sea level, Antamina has a complex geological environment. This adds an extra level of challenge to any operations on the site due to variations inherent in the local geology, requiring careful and responsive planning.

Antamina mine has been in production since 2001. Recent approvals (2024) saw an expansion of the existing tailings dam facility, expansion of the open pit and waste dump areas, as well as changes to related infrastructure to support these expansions.

KCB has been assisting the mine since 2010 with EIA approvals, integrated water balance and water quality modelling, and various other assessments/investigations. A few of them include:

  • Geochemical Characterisation of Site
  • Annual Site Water Quality Reporting and Model Updates
  • Mine Waste Classification
  • Multiphase and Geochemical Modelling of the Co-disposal Facility
  • Mine Closure Planning
